Clinical Intern

Mission:

To provide home-based, school-based, and community-based services to youth and families with a focus on success through skill development and relationship building.

Parkside Family Counseling, LLC located at 805 W. Maumee Street, Adrian, MI 49221, is a private agency serving children, adolescents, and adults in Lenawee County, Michigan. Parkside was established in 1997 when the need arose for community-based services for youth involved with the juvenile justice system. Since its founding, Parkside has responded to other needs in the community making services available to youth and families with a variety of complicated life circumstances.

Currently, we offer home-, school- and office-based therapeutic services to youth, families, and adults with behavioral and mental health needs, substance abuse problems, or have experienced some type of trauma. In the last 10 years Parkside has grown in size and in the types of services offered. In addition to the Director/Lead Clinician, Parkside has an Office Manager, a Human Resources Coordinator, a part-time administrator, 2 full-time clinicians, 12 independent contractor clinicians, and a Recovery Coach who work anywhere from 10 – 40 hours per week.

At Parkside we address behavioral and mental health needs, trauma, substance abuse, and problems in family relationships. Services that are offered include: Intensive Home-based Therapy (IHT) for youth and families involved in the Juvenile Justice System and for families involved with Child Welfare; Specialized Assessments to determine risk of recidivism for youth who have exhibited violent behavior; trauma focused individual, family, and group therapy for children, teens, and adults who are survivors of sexual harm; Assessments and treatment for teens and adults with Substance Use Disorders, and Outpatient SUD services include individual, and group therapy for teens and adults to address substance use disorders.

Collaboration with other service providers is an integral part of the work we do with families at Parkside. Many of the youth we serve are receiving services through various public and private agencies due to complicating life situations. Good communication and cooperative delivery of services is paramount to the process of helping families. Some of the youth we serve are involved in the juvenile justice system through Probate Court, Juvenile Division due to the behavior leading them into legal consequences. Some of these families are also involved with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) due to child welfare issues and some are involved with Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority as they are working to address their issues of mental health.

Interns are supervised by 2 senior therapists and have opportunities to work with other therapists as well through home-based, outpatient, and school-based services. They will be assigned clients when the intern and supervisor decide the intern is ready. The interns are invited to be a part of all training and consultation meetings that take place weekly at the agency. They will learn about administrative aspects of running an agency by observing and being a part of the day to day running of Parkside Family Counseling, LLC.
