To ensure a safe manufacturing environment, our Occupational Health and Safety Engineering team plays a crucial role in hazard prevention, conducting safety audits, providing training, and implementing risk mitigation strategies.

Looking for a great answer to the question – what did you do this summer? This is it! Through our Summer Internship, you’ll gain the experience, knowledge, and skills to take your career to another level. Throughout this 12-week program. You’ll enjoy hands-on involvement in some of the ground-breaking initiatives we’ve got going on. In addition to developing technically and professionally, you’ll be able to build a network of friends and contacts while discovering what it’s like to live, work and play in while working in one of our plant locations in either Metro Detroit or Louisville, KY.
Responsibilities
What you'll do…
You will have the opportunity to lead a viable project assigned to you by your people leader (supervisor) that could include:
- Work with a collaborative, cross-functional team
- Develop a project plan to ensure your people leader stays informed of your progress
- Research and develop at least one single point lesson (safety talk) on a relevant topic for the facility
- Develop and present a professional presentation to the facility’s leadership
- Inspect, evaluate, and communicate workplace conditions and behaviors
- Review and update at least one standard relevant to the facility
- Conduct hazard assessments and risk assessments
- Participate in incident investigations
- Job shadow with a safety engineer and/or a union health and safety representative on daily tasks
- Perform safety related clerical assignments
Qualifications
You'll have...
- Must be at least a college/university level junior seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational safety, ergonomics, or industrial hygiene
- Graduating and available for fulltime employment by September 2028
- College/University must be ANSAC/ABET accredited
- Minimum of a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Ability to work on site at one of our manufacturing facilities in either the Louisville, KY area or Southeast Michigan on a daily basis for the duration of the internship.
Even better, you may have…
- Understanding of relevant external safety standards such as OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, etc.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and SharePoint.
- Oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team setting

This position ranges from $3,500-8,300 monthly.
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

This position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
