Hospice Bilingual Volunteer Companion

Bridge Language Barriers: Volunteer as a Bilingual Companion with CorsoCare
Do you speak more than one language and want to make a powerful, compassionate impact in
your community? As a Bilingual Volunteer with CorsoCare, you will provide comfort,
conversation, and companionship to hospice patients in their primary language—helping them
feel completely at home, understood, and cared for.
If you are studying pre-med, nursing, social work, global health, modern languages, or public
health—or simply want to put your language skills to work for a meaningful purpose—this role
offers a rare opportunity to practice cross-cultural communication while offering essential human
connection.
What You’ll Do
• Provide Native-Language Companionship: Converse with patients in their preferred
language, offering a comforting voice through light conversation, reading, music, or quiet
reflection.
• Bridge Communication Gaps: Help patients and families feel truly heard, reducing the
anxiety, confusion, and isolation that often come with language barriers in healthcare
settings.
• Support Cultural Comfort: Bring warmth and familiarity to patients during a sensitive
time in their lives by honoring their language and heritage.
How Opportunities Work
• Census-Based Matching: Language needs depend on our current patient enrollment and
location.
• Stay Active: We recommend taking on general English-speaking Companionship visits
while patient needs in your specific language open up, ensuring you can start serving
right away!
Why Join?
• In-Demand Skillset: Stand out to graduate programs, medical schools, and healthcare
employers by demonstrating practical, real-world experience in bilingual patient support
and cultural competency.
• Complete Flexibility: Schedule visits around your classes, exams, or work
commitments.
• Profound Human Connection: Be the comforting presence that transforms a patient's
day by speaking to them in the language closest to their heart.
Requirements
• Language Ability: Fluency in English plus at least one additional language (e.g.,
Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Hindi, or other common regional languages).
• Core Traits: Strong communication skills, empathy, reliability, and cultural sensitivity.
• Onboarding: Completion of the CorsoCare volunteer training program, background
check, fingerprints, and TB test.
Ready to bring comfort in any language? Apply today to become a CorsoCare Bilingual
Volunteer and ensure every patient feels connected, supported, and understood.
