Modern, Contemporary & Jazz Instructor
OVERVIEW OF ROLE
Performing Arts is seeking an experienced and passionate Contemporary, Modern & Jazz Instructor to teach students ages 8 through adult in both our Recreational and Progressive Training Programs. The ideal candidate possesses a strong classical dance foundation and expertise in contemporary and modern dance methodologies, as well as jazz technique and performance. This instructor will inspire students through high-quality technical training, artistic development, and meaningful performance opportunities while contributing to a collaborative faculty culture. The position includes classroom instruction, choreography, student assessment, and curriculum development within a non-competition performing arts environment focused on artistic growth and technical excellence.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's Degree in Dance, Performing Arts, Dance Pedagogy, Education, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional performance and teaching experience will be considered. Strong classical dance foundation with expertise in Contemporary Dance and one or more of the following methodologies: Release Technique, Hawkins Technique, Horton Technique, Contemporary Jazz, or Giordano Jazz. Experience teaching beginning through advanced dancers, ages 8 through adult, with an understanding of ageappropriate pedagogy, progressive skill development, and student assessment. Choreographic experience for large groups, small groups, duets, and trios, with the ability to create engaging performance work that supports both technical and artistic development. Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, and families while fostering technical excellence, creativity, artistry, and student growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instruction & Student Development: Teach contemporary, modern, and jazz classes for beginning through advanced students ages 8 through adult, providing high-quality technical instruction while fostering artistry, musicality, confidence, and performance skills. Curriculum & Assessment: Teach GPA curriculum and collaborate with faculty to support progressive skill development, evaluate student progress, provide constructive feedback, and assist with advancement recommendations. Choreography & Performance: Create and stage choreography for Winter and Spring Showcases and other performance opportunities, including large groups, small groups, duets, and trios, while preparing students for rehearsals and performances. Faculty Collaboration & Studio Culture: Participate in faculty meetings and program initiatives, collaborate with colleagues and families, and contribute positively to the mission, values, and supportive culture of Greensboro Performing Arts.
SCHEDULE AND AVAILABILITY
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday Approximately 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM Additional rehearsal, choreography, showcase, and special event opportunities may be available throughout the season.
COMPENSATION
Hourly teaching rate commensurate with education, professional experience, and teaching expertise. Separate project agreements may be available for choreography, productions, workshops, master classes, private lessons, and curriculum development projects
