About the Internship
The Human Resources Department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join the Assessment Services Unit. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across employee selection, assessment development, and large-scale recruitment operations. The intern will be exposed to a wide range of job titles and hiring processes that support the Port Authority’s mission to “Keep the region moving”, including operational, maintenance, leadership, and public-safety roles. This role provides meaningful, real-world experience in talent selection and assessment work that directly contributes to building and maintaining a highly qualified workforce.
Responsibilities
- Conduct job analyses to identify critical competencies
- Assist in the development of written, oral, and practical assessments
- Support test administration logistics, scheduling, and coordination
- Assist in facilitating the movement of PAPD Police Officer candidates through multiple selection and testing phases
- Perform descriptive and basic statistical analyses to monitor applicant progress and recruitment outcomes
- Contribute to assessment reports, recruitment metrics, and documentation to ensure defensible selection processes
- Help prepare training materials for item writers and assessment raters
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
- Major in Industrial/Organizational Psychology or a related discipline
- Graduate-level student
Desired Qualifications
- Strong interest in assessment science, employee selection and data analytics
- Familiarity with employment testing standards and basic statistics
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with statistical tools is a plus (SPSS, R)
Internship Details
- The start date is expected to be in September 2026
- This internship will require 20 hours per week
- In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits
- The hourly rate range is $18.61 to $28.72 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
