MIT Beaver Works - Applied Engineering, AI & Future Technologies Teaching Assistant

MIT Beaver Works is seeking fall teaching assistants to support the Applied Engineering, AI & Future Technologies course, based on the "Many Interesting Things" course. BWSI is a world-class educational outreach program that challenges high school students across the country through hands-on STEM learning. For more information on BWSI, visit: https://bwsi.mit.edu/

Designed for curious students, including beginners, the course explores how foundational computer systems, applied engineering, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies connect to real-life applications. TAs will help students build confidence, think across disciplines, and turn technical ideas into practical understanding.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-instruct advanced, accessible lessons across engineering, computer systems, data analytics, AI, and emerging technologies
  • Facilitate hands-on activities and demonstrations that connect technical concepts to real-world applications
  • Guide discussions and small-group work while providing clear feedback and encouragement to beginning learners
  • Moderate the virtual classroom and course chat, answer questions, and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Collaborate with the lead instructor to prepare and revise lessons, activities, and student project materials

Position Requirements:

  • Current undergraduate in engineering, computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly without losing rigor
  • Broad technical curiosity and the ability to learn and work across disciplines
  • Reliability, collaboration, and enthusiasm for mentoring high school students
  • Availability for an eight-week virtual fall program, with final dates and times to be confirmed; anticipated commitment is approximately 7.5 hours per week October 10-December 5 2026

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Python, data analysis, or applied AI and machine learning tools
  • Experience in one or more areas such as electronics, microcontrollers, computer systems, networking, web development, cybersecurity, or technical prototyping
  • Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or supporting project-based learning
  • Experience developing course content or facilitating instruction in a virtual environment
