Software Engineering Intern

Software Engineering Intern

Remote · Unpaid · 10–20 hours/week · Roughly three months · Flexible start

AI can write code quickly. Shipping a dependable product still means understanding everything around it: auth, data modeling, permissions, realtime sync, storage, payments, deployment, testing, and the product decisions that hold it together.

DeepSpace brings those pieces into one SDK. During this internship, you will learn how modern applications move from an idea to a working product, build scoped projects with the SDK, and get direct feedback from the engineers who build it.

This is an education-first internship with substantial hands-on work. Your projects may be real and may reach users, but they are selected and supervised for their learning value. Intern work complements the team; it does not replace paid staff, fill a required operating role, or make you solely responsible for production systems or customer commitments.

What you get

  • A structured learning plan covering product scoping, TypeScript, data modeling, auth and permissions, realtime systems, testing, deployment, observability, and secure development.
  • Regular mentorship, code review, and feedback from DeepSpace engineers.
  • Practical experience directing coding agents while still understanding, testing, and explaining the work they produce.
  • Portfolio-ready work where confidentiality permits, plus a written reference for participants who complete the program in good standing.
  • Direct exposure to how a small developer-tools company makes engineering and product decisions.

What you'll do

  • Build and iterate on scoped, multi-user applications using DeepSpace.
  • Learn to turn a product idea into a small, dependable release: define the user, choose a scope, model the data, set permissions, test the important paths, and deploy it.
  • Use the SDK deeply and give specific feedback on the developer experience.
  • Create tests, technical notes, demos, and examples as part of the learning process.
  • Pair with an engineer to observe and investigate issues in safe environments. Interns are not on call and do not own production incidents.
  • Present your decisions, tradeoffs, and lessons to the team and other participants.

How the program works

At the start, we agree on learning goals and a project scope. You receive regular reviews and mentorship throughout the program, with room to revise the scope when that creates a better learning outcome. Every production change is reviewed and approved by a DeepSpace engineer.

The skills are meant to transfer beyond DeepSpace: product scoping, modern TypeScript, data and permission design, testing, deployment, secure change management, debugging, and working effectively with AI coding tools.

Completing the internship does not guarantee or entitle anyone to a job. Participants may apply separately for future paid openings, but this program is not an unpaid trial period for employment.

Who we're looking for

  • You have built and deployed a full application, whether through coursework, personal projects, open source, or work.
  • You are comfortable with TypeScript and modern web development.
  • You care about how software feels to use, not only whether it runs.
  • You can explain your choices, ask for help, and learn from review.
  • Nice to have: experience with the DeepSpace SDK, cloud infrastructure, containers, or CI/CD. None is required.

How selection works

  1. Apply with links to things you have built.
  2. We review applications on a rolling basis.
  3. Selected applicants receive a short, timeboxed build exercise using the DeepSpace SDK.
  4. A live coding session with one of our engineers is the final round.

The build exercise is for evaluation only. You own your submission, and DeepSpace will not ship, sell, or incorporate it into a product or marketing campaign without a separate written agreement.

The basics

Unpaid, remote, around 10–20 hours a week, and roughly three months with a flexible start date. Open to students and recent graduates where an unpaid placement is permitted. Because employment rules vary by location, eligibility and final program terms are reviewed based on where each participant will physically perform the work.

Before the program starts, the participant and DeepSpace will sign a written agreement covering the educational structure, confidentiality, information security, project scope, and ownership. Participants keep their pre-existing work and the applicant build. Any ownership or license for program work must be identified specifically rather than assigned through a blanket claim.

We evaluate the work, not the person. Applications are welcome from everyone, and if you need an accommodation during the process, let us know.
