Graphic Design & Illustration Intern

We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Graphic Design & Illustration Intern to create original artwork and visual materials that enhance classroom lesson plans for students from PreK through 3rd grade.

This is an individual contributor position for a student with a strong interest in illustration and a desire to develop their ability to create professional artwork within an established illustration style. The successful candidate will be expected to take creative direction, study and understand an existing visual language, and produce new illustrations that feel consistent with the established style.

The work will focus on creating engaging, age-appropriate visual materials that help young students understand and connect with educational concepts.

Key Responsibilities

Create original illustrations and graphic artwork to support PreK–3rd grade classroom lesson plans and educational materials

Develop artwork based on written concepts, lesson objectives, creative direction, sketches, and references

Learn and consistently apply a predefined illustration style across new artwork

Study existing illustrations to understand character design, proportions, line quality, color palettes, composition, and other stylistic characteristics

Create illustrations that are visually engaging, age-appropriate, and appropriate for classroom use

Use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Procreate, or comparable digital illustration tools to create and refine artwork

Adapt and revise artwork based on creative direction and feedback

Maintain consistency across illustrations created for different lessons and subject areas

Research visual references and illustration techniques to support new educational concepts

Organize and maintain source files and working files so artwork can be efficiently revised or reused

Manage assigned projects and deadlines independently while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail

Skills & Qualifications

Strong interest and demonstrated ability in illustration and graphic design

Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and/or Procreate

Strong understanding of drawing, composition, color, visual storytelling, and design fundamentals

Ability to create original artwork from a concept or written description

Explicit interest in learning how to work within a predefined illustration style

Ability to carefully observe an existing visual style and reproduce its characteristics consistently

Strong attention to detail and visual consistency

Ability to take direction and thoughtfully incorporate feedback

Comfortable working independently and managing assignments from concept through completion

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

A portfolio demonstrating illustration and graphic design work is required

Preferred Experience

Digital illustration

Character or environment illustration

Children's illustration or educational artwork

Experience creating artwork for young children

Vector illustration and digital painting

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud

Experience working from an established brand or illustration style
