About Scout
Scout is an early-stage shopping app built on a simple belief: people already know what they want. We're not here to tell you what to buy — we're here to help you figure out the best time and way to buy it. Think of us as the smartest friend you have who happens to know everything about deals, timing, and value. We're building tools that work for shoppers, not brands.
What You'll Do
- Own one of Scout's development pods end to end — ML, backend, or app surfaces — as its product owner
- Run the development pipeline in Jira: sprint planning, backlog grooming, status tracking, unblocking
- Write specs and acceptance criteria engineers can actually build from
- Coordinate dependencies across ML, backend, and frontend interns so releases land on time
- Run QA passes and launch checklists before features ship in our weekly release cycle
- Translate founder priorities into weekly plans; report progress and risks directly to the founder
Who You Are
- Currently enrolled in a CS, Business, HCI, or related program
- Organized and decisive — you've run a project with multiple contributors and kept it on schedule
- A clear writer: your specs leave no room for "wait, what did you mean?"
- Technical enough to follow engineering discussions (CS coursework or a technical project is a plus)
- Self-directed and comfortable in an early-stage environment where requirements evolve
- Eligible to receive academic credit through your university
Our Tools
- Pipeline: Jira
- Docs: Notion
- Comms: Slack
What You'll Learn
How software actually ships at a startup — prioritization under constraints, scope cuts, and the coordination work that separates shipped from stuck.
This Role Is Perfect For You If...
You want to be a product manager or founder, and you'd rather run a real development pipeline with real engineers than write case studies about one.
What You'll Get
- Academic credit (we'll work with your school)
- A shipped product roadmap you ran — portfolio work
- Direct mentorship from a founder with deep experience in consumer tech and digital commerce
- A front-row seat to building a consumer startup from the ground up
