Project Manager Intern

Job Summary / Objective

The project manager intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities

1. Meet with customers to understand mechanical/electrical requirement.  2. Meet with internal and external provider of mechanical/electrical/controls designers to relay requirements in order to obtain pricing/delivery estimates.  3. Provide quotation to customers.  4.  After order acquisition manage the deliverables until project completion—report on progress to internal/external customers and track the progress operationally and financially in the Fives PM system.  5.  Additional responsibilities include A) Following up on existing projects that have been installed but not completed—understand open issues and work with resources (internal/external) to develop action plans to close out and complete those projects, B) Scheduling of service personnel to various sites as needed to support installation work  C) Develop quotations for customer request for additional services. 

Job Summary Main Tasks / Responsibilities

  1. Learn and apply the project manager process for managing new projects
  2. Assist in the closing out of open issues or existing installation/warranty work for current projects
  3. Learn and manage a project from initial phase (quotation) thru final install and completion.
  4. Learn and assist and eventually lead the scheduling of service personnel on ongoing aftermarket projects.
  5. Learn how to respond and understand requirements for customers' requests and then provide quotations.
  6. Learn about our in-house capabilities and understand which work is best done by internal suppliers and where outside expertise is required.
  7. Update leadership and team members on status of current work and keep them updated appropriately.
  8. Manage customer relationship and requirements throughout the PM activities.

Education, Training and Experience

  1. Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field
  2. Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and engineering drawings
  3. Interest in project management
  4. Familiarity with basic finance and strong Microsoft office skills
  5. Strong willingness to learn, follow instructions, and work safely
  6. Good communication and teamwork skills with a desire to work across functional areas and both with external and internal suppliers
  7. Ability to work with ambiguous customer requirements and provide clarity in direction and progress.
  8. Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, and knowledge of mechanical and electrical construction.
  9. Ability to work autonomously, without day-to-day direction.

Position Type, Expected Work Hours, and Travel

  • Combination of office work as well as some travel to customers, within the USA and Canada
  • Internship position.
