About Tangelic
Tangelic is a nonprofit climate and development organization and project developer working to advance practical solutions at the intersection of climate, clean energy, infrastructure, technology, and inclusive development.
We work with local and international partners to develop and implement projects in emerging markets, while building the technical and data capabilities needed to improve how these projects are understood, monitored, and scaled.
The Opportunity
Tangelic is looking for an exceptionally motivated and technically capable student to join our team and contribute to the development of an emerging climate intelligence platform.
This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, climate technology, and infrastructure and to apply those skills to real-world problems.
The platform is already in active deployment with real projects and partner organizations. The successful candidate will therefore not simply be researching hypothetical applications. You will have the opportunity to work with real datasets, contribute to technical development, test ideas, solve problems, and help shape an evolving technology as it moves toward broader deployment.
This is a hands-on technical role for someone who wants to build.
What You'll Do
Depending on your skills and interests, you may contribute to:
- Developing and improving software and analytical workflows
- Writing and maintaining Python or other code
- Applying machine learning and AI to real-world climate and infrastructure datasets
- Developing statistical and analytical methods
- Building data visualization and analytical tools
- Working with structured and unstructured datasets
- Testing, debugging, and improving platform functionality
- Researching emerging AI, data, and climate technologies
- Developing new analytical capabilities and prototypes
- Supporting the integration of new data sources and technologies
- Working with an interdisciplinary team to translate technical ideas into practical applications
The exact scope will evolve with the candidate's capabilities. We want someone who can bring ideas to the table, not simply wait for instructions.
Why This Is a Unique Opportunity
You will be working on an emerging technology while it is being built and deployed, giving you exposure to challenges that are difficult to reproduce in a classroom.
You will see firsthand how technical concepts perform when confronted with real-world data, imperfect datasets, operational constraints, and the needs of actual projects.
The experience sits at an unusual intersection of:
AI + Machine Learning + Data Science + Climate Technology + Infrastructure + Finance
You will also work alongside professionals with experience spanning climate and energy projects, international development, infrastructure, technology, and finance.
For an ambitious student, this can provide a particularly valuable opportunity to develop both technical depth and practical judgment.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is serious about technology, passionate about climate, and eager to build things that matter.
We are particularly interested in:
- Graduate students and advanced undergraduate students
- Computer Science
- Data Science
- Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
- Engineering
- Applied Mathematics / Statistics
- Environmental or Climate Technology
- Related quantitative or technical disciplines
Strong candidates should have demonstrated experience with several of the following:
- Python or another programming language
- Machine learning / AI
- Data analysis and manipulation
- Statistical methods
- Data visualization
- Software development
- APIs and databases
- Data pipelines
- Git/GitHub or comparable development environments
We care less about having the perfect résumé than about what you can actually do.
Personal projects, research, GitHub repositories, technical coursework, previous internships, publications, or other evidence of your ability to build and solve difficult problems are highly valued.
The Person We're Looking For
We want someone who is:
- Technically strong
- Curious and intellectually ambitious
- Passionate about AI and emerging technologies
- Interested in solving climate and infrastructure problems
- Comfortable learning independently
- Analytical and detail-oriented
- Willing to experiment and iterate
- Able to communicate technical ideas clearly
- Comfortable operating in an environment where the answer is not always known in advance
Most importantly, initiative matters. If you see something that could be improved, we want you to be the person who investigates it and brings an idea forward.
Compensation & Future Opportunities
This is an initially unpaid, part-time internship designed to provide substantial hands-on technical experience and professional development.
As Tangelic's technology initiatives develop, there may be opportunities for paid work or a longer-term position based on performance, organizational needs, and mutual fit. Any future paid position would be separately discussed and is not guaranteed.
International Students
We welcome applications from qualified international students.
Where appropriate, Tangelic can provide documentation supporting a student's internship or practical-training authorization, subject to the requirements of the student's university and applicable U.S. immigration regulations.
A Chance to Build Something Real
If you are looking for an internship where you can simply complete assigned tasks and add a line to your résumé, this probably isn't it.
If you want to write code, work with machine learning, analyze real data, solve difficult problems, work with an interdisciplinary team, and contribute to a technology that is already being deployed, this is a much more interesting opportunity.
