About the Role

As a Consulting Intern, you’ll spend eight weeks working on real client challenges in a supportive team environment. From day one, we’re here to help you experience what it means to be a Newton consultant – harnessing your skills and giving you the chance to make a genuine impact. You’ll partner with exceptional people and clients from a diverse range of backgrounds across the Consumer Products and Retail sectors, working throughout North America.

The program mirrors the early experience of our full-time Consultants. You’ll analyze data, find important opportunities, and help shape unexpected but effective solutions – working hand-in-hand with clients, mapping processes, and identifying opportunities for operational improvement.

Complex challenges require sophisticated solutions. Newton understands that by building our core Operations, Digital & AI and People & Change capabilities, we will have diverse teams in place to deliver the best outcomes for clients. All our interns build the same core Operations Consultant skillset that our full-time Consultants develop – the fundamentals of consulting and the Newton methodology.

The program is designed to identify and develop future Consultant talent. Interns who successfully complete the program are considered for a return offer, with anticipated full-time start dates between Summer and Fall 2028.

Program Structure

Program Length: 8 weeks, June–July 2027

  • Weeks 1–2 – UK Induction & Onboarding: you’ll travel to our Oxfordshire headquarters to onboard alongside our incoming Consultant hires, gaining exposure to Newton’s methodology, culture, and global business, with the chance to network with consultants and leadership and shadow live project and client activity.
  • Weeks 3–8 – North America Client Experience: you’ll return to the U.S. and be assigned to an active client engagement, contributing alongside a project team while receiving coaching and support from experienced Consultants and Program Site Managers.
  • Throughout the program, you’ll be assigned a Line Manager and a Buddy/Mentor, with weekly check-ins, a Midpoint Engagement Review (Week 5), and a Final Engagement Review (Week 8) covering your performance, consulting competencies, and readiness for a return offer with an anticipated start date between Summer and Fall 2028.
  • You’ll close out the program with a 7–10 minute presentation at a Chicago-based Review Day, sharing your client contributions, key lessons learned, and recommendations for future cohorts.

The Key Details

  • Job Location: United States, with frequent travel to client sites
    • Candidates may apply from anywhere in the United States but must reside in Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, or North Carolina for the duration of the internship. Interns should expect frequent travel to client sites across the country, with travel and accommodation provided by Newton.
  • Newton Consulting Headquarters: Oxfordshire/London, United Kingdom
  • UK Induction: approximately 2 weeks at our Oxfordshire headquarters at the start of the program

Compensation & Support

  • Pay: approximately $43.27 per hour (based on a $90,000 annualized rate)
  • Hotel accommodation provided during travel weeks for client engagements
  • Breakfast and dinner provided during travel weeks for client engagements

Qualifications

Education & Degree Requirements: Candidates must be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028, in one of the following approved majors or a closely related or similar field with relevant coursework.

  • Business: Actuarial Science or Risk Analysis; Business Analytics; Consulting; Finance and Financial Management; Economics; Supply Chain Management; Accounting (or closely related quantitative business fields).
  • Computer Science, Information Systems & Technology: Computer Programming; Computer Science; Computer Systems Networking & Telecommunications; Cyber Security; Data Mining; Data Science; Information Systems Management; Library Sciences; Software Design; User Experience or Social Computing.
  • Math & Physical Sciences: Astronomy or Space Exploration; Aviation; Chemistry; Mathematics; Physics; Statistics.
  • Natural & Applied Sciences: Earth Sciences or similar applied science disciplines.
  • Social & Cognitive Sciences: Cognition & Neuroscience or Biopsychology or related analytical disciplines.
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 is required across all disciplines.
  • Strong problem-solving ability through quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Within a broader project, the ability to contribute to an independent workstream, leveraging appropriate prioritization, resourcefulness, time management and leadership skills.
  • Must reside within a reasonable commutable distance to Chicago, IL for work purposes using own means of transportation, such as a personal vehicle or public transportation.
  • Ability to travel and work on-site at client premises as needed between Monday–Friday during standard business hours.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.
