Engineering Intern

Clauger designs and builds industrial ammonia refrigeration systems — the infrastructure behind food production, cold storage, and manufacturing across the country. As an Engineering Intern, you'll be embedded on one of our engineering teams, working directly alongside a Senior Engineer and engineers at multiple experience levels on real design packages for active projects. This internship is also how we build our pipeline for full-time hires — many of our interns go on to join the team after graduation.

Reports to: Director of Engineering (day-to-day work assigned and reviewed by your team's Senior Engineer)

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Position Type/Hours: Full-time, May–July

Work Environment: Primarily office-based, with site visits to active job sites and manufacturing facilities. Must comply with Clauger, OSHA, and site-specific safety rules and PPE requirements.

Travel: Some travel to job sites is anticipated.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (rising junior or senior preferred)

Essential Skills:

  • Exposure to AutoCAD and/or Revit through coursework or personal projects
  • Comfortable with Excel (formulas, basic data organization)
  • Strong technical writing and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn P&ID development and industry-specific design tools
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

What You'll Work On

You'll be assigned to one of our engineering teams and contribute to real design deliverables for industrial refrigeration projects, including:

Design Work

  • Pipe sizing and valve selection
  • Safety relief valve calculations
  • Refrigerant inventory
  • Machine room ventilation
  • Mass and energy balance
  • Equipment schedules
  • P&IDs and valve lists
  • CAD drawing updates
  • Equipment submittal review

Field Work

  • Site inspections and field data collection
  • 3D scanning and 3D model review
  • Development of technical reports and scope of work

Project Support

  • Support project coordination, including documenting meeting minutes

You'll work toward delivering a complete, accurate set of drawings and specifications — the same standard our engineers are held to on live projects.
