About TORQ Sports
TORQ Sports is a sports technology company building products that help athletes, coaches, and organizations better navigate performance, development, recruiting, and communication.
We are looking for a Software Engineer Intern to join our team and contribute directly to the continued development of the TORQ platform. This is an opportunity to work with a modern technology stack, gain hands-on experience building a real-world product, and collaborate closely with our engineering and leadership teams.
Because we are building specifically for athletes and sports organizations, we highly value candidates who understand sports from firsthand experience. Current or former student-athletes, coaches, or candidates with an in-depth understanding of one or more sports are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and maintaining TORQ Sportsโ Flutter mobile application.
- Work on backend services using Node.js, including API integrations and performance optimization.
- Collaborate on database management using PostgreSQL to support efficient data storage and retrieval.
- Deploy and manage applications in AWS, leveraging cloud services for scalability and reliability.
- Work with Docker and containerized environments to streamline development and deployment.
- Support DevOps efforts, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
- Participate in agile development, including sprint planning, code reviews, and team meetings.
- Work closely with the TORQ team to translate the needs of athletes, coaches, and sports organizations into product features and improvements.
Requirements
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on development experience.
- Experience with Flutter and mobile application development.
- Familiarity with Node.js and backend development.
- Working knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with AWS and cloud-based application development.
- Basic experience with Docker and containerized applications.
- Exposure to DevOps concepts such as CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and cloud automation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and an interest in building scalable, high-performance applications.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team.
- Strong general knowledge of sports and an understanding of how athletes, coaches, and teams operate.
- Current or former student-athlete experience is strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of at least one sport is highly valued and may be prioritized over experience with some of the more specialized technical tools listed above.
Nice-to-Have
- Previous internship experience or personal projects showcasing mobile or backend development.
- Experience with GraphQL or RESTful API development.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and cloud-native applications.
- Familiarity with frontend and backend testing frameworks.
- Experience building products or tools specifically for athletes, teams, coaches, or sports organizations.
- Firsthand experience with recruiting, player development, team operations, sports performance, or other areas of the sports ecosystem.
Why Join TORQ Sports?
- Build technology designed for athletes, coaches, and teams.
- Make meaningful contributions to a growing sports technology product rather than working exclusively on isolated intern projects.
- Gain hands-on experience with a modern technology stack in a fast-moving startup environment.
- Work directly with experienced engineers, athletes, and sports industry professionals.
- Help shape product features based on real problems within the sports world.
- Opportunity for continued or full-time involvement following the internship.
