Psychology & Youth Development Internship – Summer 2027
About the Position
Spend your summer gaining hands-on experience working with children while developing skills that complement your studies in psychology, human development, or a related field.
Our Psychology Internship places students directly into the camp community as counselors and mentors. You'll live and work alongside campers, helping support their day-to-day well-being, relationships, confidence, independence, and overall camp experience.
This is not a clinical or therapy-based internship. Instead, it offers immersive experience working with children and adolescents in a highly social, community-based environment—giving you opportunities to strengthen communication, leadership, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and relationship-building skills.
Psychology Interns/Counselors will:
- Serve as a primary caretaker, mentor, and positive role model for a group of campers
- Live alongside campers in a cabin and participate fully in daily camp life
- Help support campers' physical and emotional well-being
- Build positive relationships with campers and help them navigate friendships, challenges, and new experiences
- Encourage confidence, independence, teamwork, and healthy communication
- Work closely with fellow counselors and camp leadership
- Communicate with leadership regarding camper needs or concerns
- Help create an inclusive, supportive, and engaging camp environment
- Learn and follow all camp policies, safety procedures, and emergency protocols
Qualifications
- At least 18 years old by the start of employment
- Currently pursuing Psychology, Human Development, Child Development, Social Work, Education, or a related field
- Interested in working directly with children and adolescents
- Compassionate, patient, dependable, and comfortable working in a team environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Previous camp or professional childcare experience is helpful, but not required
About Working at Camp
Working at camp is more than a summer job. You'll spend your summer immersed in a community where relationships, communication, leadership, and personal development are part of everyday life.
You'll gain extensive experience interacting with children and adolescents, learn how to respond to different personalities and situations, develop leadership and conflict-resolution skills, and see firsthand how community and positive relationships can influence a young person's experience.
Staff working at our overnight camps are required to live at camp and reside in cabins alongside their campers. This is an immersive residential position, and staff participate fully in the camp community throughout the summer.
Positions generally run from approximately the second week of June through the first week of August, with exact dates varying by camp and position.
Compensation is approximately $2,000–$2,700 for the summer, depending on position and experience. Housing, meals, a travel stipend, comprehensive staff training, and scheduled days off are also included.
