About Penned
Penned helps SEO and PR agencies produce content for their clients, bringing together writers, editors and managed delivery.
We’re looking for a student interested in content marketing to help develop Penned’s own marketing activity. You’ll get practical experience in researching audiences, preparing content and understanding how businesses use writing to attract and support customers.
About the internship
You’ll work with our founder and editorial team on supervised projects across content, social media and email marketing.
The placement will have agreed learning objectives, regular feedback and a workload suited to your academic commitments. We won’t expect you to arrive as an experienced marketer or manage the program independently.
As this is a startup, you'll be able to directly demonstrate your impact on the company's growth and carry that forward into new roles after this internship.
What you’ll help with
Depending on your interests, course requirements, and progress, you could:
- Research topics, audience questions and relevant search terms.
- Help turn research into article ideas, outlines and content briefs.
- Draft and edit LinkedIn posts using approved articles and founder insights.
- Help prepare our fortnightly newsletter, The Agency Content Desk.
- Organize the content calendar and prepare approved material for publication.
- Review basic content performance and help identify useful improvements.
Your work will be reviewed before publication, with guidance on the thinking behind edits and decisions.
What you’ll learn
You’ll gain experience in:
- Planning content around a specific audience and business purpose.
- Writing and editing for different channels.
- Applying basic SEO research and content optimisation.
- Using audience feedback and performance data to improve content.
- Working through a professional briefing, review and publishing process.
- You’ll also have opportunities to develop portfolio examples, subject to approval and any client confidentiality requirements.
Who we’re looking for
This could suit a student studying marketing, communications, journalism, English, business or a related subject. Students from other disciplines with a strong interest in content marketing are welcome to apply.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Writes clearly and enjoys improving their work.
- Is curious, asks questions, and responds well to feedback.
- Pays attention to detail and checks information carefully.
- Can organize tasks and communicate when they need help.
- Is comfortable working with documents and spreadsheets.
- Familiarity with social media, email platforms, SEO tools or design software is useful, but previous professional marketing experience isn’t required. Coursework, student publications and personal projects are all relevant.
Academic credit and placement arrangements
This is an unpaid placement intended for students completing an internship as part of their studies. Academic credit must be approved and awarded by your college or university.
Before the placement begins, we’ll agree the learning objectives, supervision, schedule, and any assessment or reporting requirements with you and, where required, your course coordinator.
The placement does not guarantee paid employment afterward. However, if performance and results are good, we may discuss future opportunities.
How to apply
Apply via email:
- Your résumé or CV.
- A short note explaining your interest in the role and what you’d like to learn.
- One example of your writing or content work, if available. Coursework and personal projects are welcome.
Please include your preferred start date, weekly availability, placement length, and academic-credit requirements.
Application deadline: Nov 9th.
