About Penned

Penned helps SEO and PR agencies produce content for their clients, bringing together writers, editors and managed delivery.

We’re planning our first paid search tests following the launch of our new website. We’re looking for a student interested in digital advertising to help research opportunities, prepare campaigns and understand which activity brings us suitable customers.

The work will include exploring how to reach agencies in the United States, Europe and South America, including those looking for native English writers or multilingual content for their clients.

About the internship

You’ll gain practical experience in how a business plans, tests and evaluates paid search advertising.

The placement will begin with research and forecasting, then progress to supervised campaign support where appropriate. You’ll have agreed learning objectives, regular feedback and a workload suited to your academic commitments.

Campaigns, technical changes and spending decisions will be reviewed and approved by the responsible supervisor before implementation.

Chance to influence a company in a measurable way from Day 1 and use this as portfolio evidence for future employers.

What you’ll help with

Depending on your interests, course requirements and progress, you could:

  • Research relevant search terms and the needs behind them.
  • Compare search demand and estimated advertising costs across selected countries.
  • Help organise keywords, campaign structures and exclusions.
  • Draft search ads and suggest improvements to landing pages.
  • Support checks on forms, conversion tracking and the visitor journey.
  • Review search terms, spending and enquiry quality.
  • Prepare short reports explaining results and possible improvements.

You may also help research local-language opportunities. Additional language skills are welcome, but aren’t required for the role.

What you’ll learn

You’ll gain experience in:

  • Using Google Ads and Keyword Planner to investigate opportunities.
  • Connecting an audience’s needs to keywords, ads and landing pages.
  • Understanding budgets, click costs and customer acquisition costs.
  • Using Google Analytics 4 and conversion data to evaluate campaigns.
  • Distinguishing website activity from qualified enquiries and paying customers.
  • Making recommendations from evidence and explaining the limits of a small test.

You’ll also have opportunities to develop portfolio examples from approved work, subject to confidentiality requirements.

Who we’re looking for

This could suit a student studying marketing, advertising, business, analytics, communications or a related subject. Students from other disciplines with a clear interest in paid advertising are welcome.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys research and working with numbers.
  • Can use spreadsheets and check details carefully.
  • Writes clearly and is interested in advertising copy.
  • Can explain what they found and why it matters.
  • Organises tasks, asks questions and responds well to feedback.

Basic familiarity with PPC or digital marketing is useful. Professional campaign experience isn’t required; coursework, certifications and personal projects are all relevant.

Academic credit and placement arrangements

This is an unpaid placement intended for students completing an internship as part of their studies. Academic credit must be approved and awarded by your college or university.

Before the placement begins, we’ll agree learning objectives, supervision, working hours and any academic assessment requirements with you and, where required, your course coordinator.

The placement does not carry a promise of paid employment afterwards.

How to apply

Apply via email:

  • Your résumé or CV.
  • A short note explaining your interest in paid advertising and what you’d like to learn.
  • An example of relevant coursework, research, advertising copy or an analytical project, if available.

Please include your preferred start date, weekly availability, placement length and academic-credit requirements.
