MotorWeek Student Fellow
About MotorWeek
MotorWeek is television’s original automotive magazine and a staple of both MPT
and PBS. For over 45 years, we have brought consumers and car enthusiasts the
latest in automotive reviews, news, and features. Our success is driven by our team,
including a long lineage of dedicated interns—many of whom have grown into
full-time staff members.
The Opportunity
We are seeking adaptable, driven interns to join our production and digital teams.
While historically embedded with our “Road Test” crew to capture core program
content, today's interns also play a crucial role in our growing digital footprint. Due
to the broad nature of our production, you do not need to be locked into one
specific field. Whether your focus is journalism, film, or digital strategy, there is an
opportunity to carve out your niche.
Key Responsibilities
On-Location Production: Work hands-on with the “Road Test” team to capture
broadcast and digital content.
Digital & Social Media: Collaborate with digital contributors to plan and execute
content tailored to our various social media platforms, driving engagement across
our channels.
Editorial Writing: Draft and publish journalism-focused automotive content for the
web.
Equipment Handling: Operate and manage a wide range of AV hardware, from
portable digital units to studio-grade technology.
Post-Production: Edit audio and video projects on both Mac and PC systems.
Requirements & Qualifications
Camera & Audio Experience: Familiarity with DJI Pockets, GoPros, Sony mirrorless
cameras, XDCAMs, TASCAMs, and DJI microphones.
Software Skills: Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically nonlinear
editing in Premiere and Audition.
Digital Fluency: A strong understanding of MotorWeek’s digital presence and the
specific types of content best suited for each social platform.
Adaptability: Ability to pivot with fluid production schedules and accommodate
last-minute, weather-related adjustments.
Logistics: Must have reliable transportation to and from the MPT campus
(transportation from the campus to off-site shoots is provided).
Bonus: A genuine interest in cars and the automotive industry is highly preferred
to make the creative process more fun and fulfilling.
Schedule & Commitment
Ideal Availability: 2 to 3 days per week, generally from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
Flexibility: We offer a relaxed policy regarding school/internship balance and
happily accommodate midterms or academic priorities.
Dynamic Environment: While we operate seven days a week, interns are not
expected to attend every shoot or location.
