The Career Signal: Career Strategy & Job Search Project
The Career Signal: Career Strategy & Job Search Project
**Project duration:** November–December 2026 **Target participants:** College seniors and graduating students
**Focus:** Career strategy, professional positioning, and job search development
About the project
You've spent years earning your degree. Now comes the challenge of turning that education into a job.
How do you stand out when competing with hundreds of other graduates? How do you demonstrate your value when you have limited professional experience? And how do you develop a job search strategy that goes beyond submitting applications and hoping for the best?
The Career Signal is a collaborative career development project designed to help graduating students tackle these questions and develop practical solutions to the challenges of entering the job market.
The project draws on the principles behind *The Career Signal* a book by Johan Tellvik and his more than 35 years of professional experience across banking, real estate, technology, entrepreneurship, and education. Having mentored hundreds of students and early-career professionals, I've seen how difficult it can be to translate academic achievements and personal potential into professional opportunities.
Background on your leader: https://johan-tellvik-coaching--johantellvik.replit.app/
Throughout this project, participants will examine how employers evaluate candidates, explore what makes graduates stand out, and work toward developing a more effective approach to their own career launch.
Rather than simply receiving generic job search advice, you'll actively work on your professional positioning, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop a strategy tailored to your goals and strengths.
What will you work on?
**Understanding your career signal:** Examine how your education, skills, projects, experiences, and interests communicate your potential to employers.
**Identifying your competitive advantages:** Determine what differentiates you from other graduates and how to communicate those strengths.
**Understanding employer needs:** Explore how organizations evaluate candidates and what makes someone a compelling potential hire.
**Developing your job search strategy:** Identify target roles, potential employers, networking opportunities, and practical ways to access the job market.
**Strengthening your professional positioning:** Work on how you present your experience, communicate your value, and demonstrate what you could contribute to an organization.
**Turning insights into action:** Develop a structured approach to pursuing opportunities and improving your chances of securing employment after graduation.
Expected project outcomes
By the end of the project, you will have worked toward developing a practical personal career strategy, including:
- A clearly articulated professional value proposition.
- An assessment of your strengths and areas for development.
- A targeted approach to identifying suitable employers and opportunities.
- Recommendations for improving your professional positioning.
- A personal job search action plan with concrete next steps.
The project will also encourage participants to think critically about the transition from college to work, share perspectives, and explore solutions to common challenges faced by graduating students.
Who should apply?
This project is designed for college seniors and graduating students who want to take a more proactive approach to finding employment.
It's particularly relevant if you're unsure how to differentiate yourself, want to improve your approach to job hunting, or need help translating your academic experience and skills into a compelling professional profile.
You don't need years of work experience to demonstrate value. You need to understand what you bring to the table and learn how to communicate it effectively.
Project leadership
The project is based on *The Career Signal*, a career development framework informed by decades of professional experience and mentoring hundreds of students and early-career professionals.
Participants will apply these ideas to their own career challenges, working toward tangible outcomes that can help them navigate the transition from college to professional life.
The objective is to move beyond simply applying for jobs and develop a more thoughtful, strategic approach to getting hired.
Your degree is the starting point. Your career signal helps employers understand what you can bring to the table.
