PH 3000 Instructional Support Assistant - Public and Environmental Wellness

Position Overview:
‘PH 3000: Introduction to Public Health’ is housed in the Department of Public and Environmental Wellness in the School of Health Sciences. This course introduces undergraduate students to foundational public health concepts. The course consists of 3-4 sections taught by multiple School of Health Sciences faculty. The assistant will be required to work between 7.5-15 hours per week for an hourly wage of $15 per hour.

Primary Responsibilities:
The assistant will serve in an instructional support role for the course. The position’s responsibilities will include:
  • Reviewing course assignment requirements with students
  • Grading course assignments
  • Recording and informing students of their grades
  • Meeting with students during office hours to assist with course assignments and course preparation
  • Assisting faculty in completing the course’s General Education Assessment Plan:
o  Systematically collect course data
o  Assist in the analysis of course data
o  Contribute to the modification of assignment rubrics
o  Aid in the development of the General Education Assessment Plan report

  • Good planning, organizing, and coordination skills
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Always maintain professionalism
  • Efficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Understanding of general public health issues and familiarity with social and structural determinants of health

Minimum Qualifications:
Currently admitted to an undergraduate or graduate degree program at Oakland University

Completed at least one undergraduate or graduate public health course, such as PH 3000
