Peer Mentor Job Description
Hourly Pay Rate: $15/hr. Supervisor: Project Advisor Positions available: 5-6
General Work Days/Hours:
● Mondays through Thursdays generally between 3pm and 8:30 pm
● Two Saturdays per month between 7:45am and 3:30pm
All PMs are not required to work all hours. Work hours will be arranged to accommodate class
schedules.
PMs who excel in performance may be granted additional hours, identified to chaperone day
and overnight field trips, and/or selected for 2024 Summer Academy Peer Mentor positions.
Position Purpose:
· Model appropriate behaviors for PUB’s high school Scholars that help them to mature
· Model appropriate behaviors that support PUB Scholars’ college success aspirations
· Provide guidance and general advising, moral and emotional support, and redirection as needed
· Assist with social/cultural/career enrichment programming
Primary Duties/Requirements:
- Attend and participate in training (preliminary and ongoing), scheduled meetings, and scheduled activities
- Assist, as directed, in facilitating PUB programming, particularly social/cultural experiences
- Establish and maintain positive, respectful and appropriate mentoring relationships w/Scholars
- Establish and maintain positive, respectful, and appropriate relationships with parents/guardians/caretakers to engage their support of mentoring efforts
- Conduct mentoring sessions with assigned mentees at least twice a month – once with each individual Scholar to check up on academic performance, social engagement, and emotional well-being; and one group session to increase positive peer group cohesion and promote open communication.
- Assist Project Advisor to facilitate workshops on character & leadership development, conflict resolution, and career exploration
- Clarify, monitor and enforce Project student conduct policies and procedures
- Address observed or referred inappropriate Scholar behaviors or other concerns that generate barriers to educational and social success
- Develop and implement icebreakers, discussions and activities
- As assigned, chaperone day and/or overnight field trips
- Keep accurate, timely, and detailed work/service logs
