Disclaimer: This position is expected to start around January or February 2024 and continue through the entire Spring term (i.e. through May 2024) or into Spring/Summer 2024 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Please consider before submitting an application.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Your application for the Supply Chain Management Internship will be considered across all opportunities for the teams listed below:
The Logistics team leads our inbound and outbound transportation management, fleet management, materials handling, order fulfillment, logistics network design, and management of third-party logistics services providers. Within logistics, the global trade & compliance department is responsible in maintaining a high level of compliance with import, customs and export rules. Your role with this group will provide transparency into one of the largest global networks being established today.
The Planning team is at the forefront of our evolution. We have an ambitious vision and a complex portfolio of challenges. Our interns will help design the process of material handling equipment and technological systems to: Unlock efficient and creative material flows. Drive business process through encouragement Craft tools and strategies to enable cost efficiencies build operating models throughout our organization. You’ll gain a deep understanding of capital projects management, facility design, storage and order fulfillment systems design for distribution networks, material flow automation, intersection of WCS/WES and WMS. The scope includes parts arriving at Tesla's network of warehouses then downstream manufacturing facilities. We are looking for a leader who can lead teams through ambitious implementations, is a critical thinker, creative, results driven, and data-centric.
The Purchasing team supports the development, implementation and management of strategies to provide Tesla with optimal supply assurance, pricing, flexibility, quality and delivery performance. Interns build and leverages strong working relationships with our engineering teams and key suppliers to assure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met. They work toward good supplier relationships and total costs of ownership to achieve maximum advantage for Tesla and our customers.

What You’ll Do
The Logistics Intern will ensure our partners are provided with excellent service throughout the shipment process including quick response to inquiries and problem resolution. We'll teach you to drive excellence through regular meetings with third party logistics partners and Tesla team members by being heavily involved in the following:
- Craft processes and systems to creatively move goods to and from hubs and destinations.
- Train teams on methodologies and implement a unified distribution handbook.
- Mitigate "one-offs" but know how and when to partner and execute unusual requests.
- Timely preparation of all required documentation to meet required delivery dates, including updates for CMP, rate sheets, etc.
- Coach utilization of Tesla Logistics Mobile Application to Drivers and Internal teams.
- Booking & coordination of smartest means to transport goods within expected requirements.
The Planning Intern will learn how to lead efforts to develop material flow standards and principles for Tesla’s facilities. You'd be encouraged to lead teams on initiatives related to warehouse automation, facility and material flow design and launch.
- Support supply chain planning operations
- Interface with suppliers ensuring production and planning targets are met
- Review and analyze supply levels for Production and Service Distribution
- Optimize parameters to improve supply chain efficiency
- Excel/MRP data analysis
- Work with cross functional team to launch and sustain new projects
- Manage safety stock levels and optimize logistical efficiency by managing EOQs.
- Manage planning system parameters and master data to optimally reflect supply chain capabilities and plan supply.
- Deliver clear-to-build status, material coverage, run-out reports and other analyses as needed to plan production and business targets.
- Provide data-driven decision support to the broader organization through what-if and scenario planning (as examples).
- Apply analytics and supply chain expertise to manage system parameters and meet target inventory and service level goals while minimizing costs and obsolescence.
- Manage engineering changes to minimize obsolete inventory and ensure continuous supply. Partner with IT and other business stakeholders on planning process and system improvements.

The ideal candidate has a fundamental understanding of key manufacturing processes, excellent project management skills, and an ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is someone who builds and leverages strong working relationships with our engineering teams and key suppliers to assure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met. They work toward good supplier relationships and total costs of ownership to achieve maximum advantage for Tesla and our customers.
- Purchase assigned commodities designated by team.
- Negotiate, evaluate and issue PO’s for assigned commodities.
- Maintain day-to-day supplier relationships; act as the leading point of contact for all commercial issues under assigned commodities.
- Identify opportunities and negotiate commercial cost reductions.
- Validate, analyze, and make sourcing recommendations based on quote packages from suppliers.
- Support Global Supply Manager on collecting NDA’s, RFQ’s, RFI’s and RFP’s and ensure all commercial terms are agreed and documented.
- Provide analysis of existing requirements and pricing to ensure the most cost-effective options.
- Work with Suppliers and Engineers to release tooling equipment into production.
- Support Engineering Team to identify suppliers available for sourcing.
- Review change order proposals and make approval or rejection recommendations.
What You’ll Bring
- Current Undergraduate, Graduate, or MBA student; focus on Supply Chain Management, Business, Data Analytics, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, or equivalent experience/evidence of exceptional ability.
- Ability to successfully work with cross range of teams including purchasing, software engineering, UX, legal, finance, sales and operations.
- Working experience (inclusive of internships). Product management work experience is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communications across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, MS Teams), JIRA, Confluence or similar tools/technologies.
- Knowledge of SQL and Tableau is a plus.
