Controls Engineer - Summer Internship

Z Modular, a division of Zekelman Industries, is seeking a Controls Engineer for our facility located in Troy, MI. Reporting to the Chassis Build Manager, this candidate will support the 3 facility controls engineers. Full time, physical attendance is required at the facilities.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

In this position, the team member is responsible for but not limited to, assisting in the preparation of creating recipes, troubleshoot PLC and robot issues, operate HMIs and pendants to carefully move robots and railing system to safe positions, make electrical and pneumatic repairs, review weld defects and make changes to weld parameters and positions. In performing these tasks, the team member will be expected to gain technical and practical knowledge in the safe operation of a robotic welding cell in a manufacturing/construction environment. 

The team member must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, quickly learn new and unfamiliar concepts and tasks, collaborate with other individuals in a constructive and effective manner, and meet strict deadlines and manage competing priorities, with quality of work.

Support all three automation cells in USA/CAN with various designs and set ups including: 

  • Reviewing shop drawings for recipe creation and automation layout 
  • Research automation issues by using Siemens PLC Tia Portal, and ABB Robot Rapid Code
  • Assist cell operators with scheduling and verification of upcoming and current recipes
  • Safe operation of servo motors and pneumatic devices
  • Work would include travel to the states of Arizona, Texas and country of Canada
  • Participate in weekly chassis build and controls engineering meetings

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Completion Electromechanical Engineering Technology Degree or Equivalent 
  • Basic knowledge and experience with Siemens Tia Portal, ABB Rapid Code 
  • Familiarity with steel design
  • Basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, databases (Microsoft Office)
