Spring 2024 Agriculture and Food Security Internship

Partners of the Americas is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that for more than 50 years has been bringing together people, organizations, and expertise to develop lasting solutions to our hemisphere’s toughest challenges. Partners’ International Office is in Washington, D.C. and is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to participate in our Spring 2024 Agriculture and Food Security (AFS) Internship. This position calls for a motivated and well-organized candidate with excellent interpersonal skills to provide integral support to the AFS unit. 

 

AFS programs contribute to global nutrition security and livelihood development by strengthening organizational and individual capacity. Our expansive network of specialized volunteers, development experts, partner organizations, and local leaders helps us increase food production and diversify income, promote improved nutrition, reinforce resilience to shocks and stresses, and support sustainable economic growth and environmental conservation.

 

Requirements

A university student in their last academic semester, currently enrolled in an accredited college/program in global affairs, international relations, agriculture, economics, or related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA; or a recent bachelor’s degree graduate (within the last 2 years) in the aforementioned fields. The expected engagement for the internship is for three to four months. The candidate must also present the following skillset:

 

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week (in-person, preferred).
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English, and Spanish or French.

 

Scope of Work

  • Provide programmatic support to the AFS team in a variety of thematic areas;
  • Communicate with key stakeholders and affiliates throughout the LAC region;
  • Support the AFS team with the planning and preparation for deliverables, events, and meetings;
  • Assist in reviewing field reports and processing payments for AFS programs;
  • Review program monitoring and evaluation data for quality/completeness;
  • Assist with the development of reports and outreach materials for the AFS programs;
  • Draft social media post to highlight AFS program achievements;
  • Research funding opportunities for agriculture and/or food security initiatives in Latin America;
  • Represent Partners at seminars, events, and meetings in Washington, DC (and/or online); and
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

An important reminder: As an intern in this department, you will have access to sensitive information and may be involved in discussions or have knowledge about issues not available to other staff. Maintaining confidentiality and using discretion when discussing Finance, HR, and Executive issues, especially within the Partners Office, is of the utmost importance.
