Mechanical Engineering Intern

What You’ll Do:

The Mechanical Engineering Intern is responsible for supporting Whisker’s major product development programs. The intern will be tasked with a mix of problem solving, designing creative solutions, testing, and documenting results.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary.

  • Works with Product Owners to carry out physical testing activities including product lifecycle,  sensor calibration data, and firmware functionality
  • Provides assistance and recommendations on task related issues as they arise
  • With team support, solves/designs mechanical solutions for simple and complex problems
  • Documents work accomplished and presenting findings
  • Will perform additional responsibilities when required

Requirements

What You’ll Bring:

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics or Industrial Engineering
  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior year experience
  • Available to work onsite for Monday - Friday 9am-5pm
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and ability to utilize them to test mechanical systems
  • Exposure and previous use of 3D CAD, preferably in PTC CREO or Solidworks
  • Comfortable with hand tools to create prototype parts and assemblies
  • Constantly uses a rapid prototyping mind set: design, test, improve and repeat until you have a finished product
  • Utilizes 3D Printers, CNC Machines or other rapid prototyping machines to create prototype parts
  • Able to use power tools and basic machines to develop and modify prototypes
  • Maintains confidentiality of proprietary information
  • Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere in a fast-paced environment with numerous interactions and interruptions
  • High degree of initiative, self-motivation and ability to motivate others
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Team Members and colleagues
  • Comfortable with office pets (cats, dogs)

Not Required but Nice to Have!

  • Prior internship experience
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems
  • Able to utilize 3D printers to create prototype parts
  • VEX, BEST, PLTW, OCCRA, Combat Robotics, Robofest, FIRST or other design/build challenge experience are a plus. Including home projects
