WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Duties will vary based on assigned activity and student’s knowledge level, and may include Outdoor Recreation, Single Sailor Support, Community Recreation, Fitness and Sports, Aquatics, Tickets and Tours, Food Service and Hospitality operations.
  • Trainees may also be assigned to program support functions such as Information Technology, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Facilities Maintenance, Administration, and Training.
  • Assists program staff with basic operations of assigned FFR activity.
  • Assists customers with questions about program offerings.
  • Instruct patrons on the proper use of equipment and forms.
  • Takes reservations for facilities or programs. 
  • Provides information to patrons on, hours of operation, upcoming events, and available resources (web, phone applications, social media, etc.).
  • Checks identification to ensure that only authorized customers and guests utilize facilities.
  • May operate a computer or cash register.
  • Assists in maintenance, setup and breakdown of facilities and events, putting away displays, equipment, seating, tables, tents, etc. and removing trash.
  • May assist staff in planning and scheduling of an event, league, or tournament.
  • May be assigned special projects within area of interest.
  • Supervises indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Schedules and conducts tours and field trips.
  • May conduct instructional classes.
  • Ensures adherence to safety rules and regulations. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: 

  • Active Enrollment in a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) Program; or active enrollment in a post-high school degree or certificate program
  • Must be mature, independent and a good role model for others.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with customers, verbally and in writing.
  • Must have a general knowledge of computers, and common software.
  • Must have the discipline to follow and apply standard procedures and operations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

  • Must be at least 16 years old. 
  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation.
  • Incumbent will work both indoors and outdoors and will be required at times to work in inclement weather.
  • Some positions require a physical or proof of immunizations. 
  • May be required to have current, or complete First Aid and CPR certification.
  • May be required to obtain a safe food handler certificate.
  • Some positions may require a valid license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Work schedule may involve evening, weekend, or holiday hours.
