Job Description:

SK Siltron CSS has a unique opportunity at our Bay City site for a Facilities Intern for the summer of 2024.

Project Summary:

Create single-page maps for all facilities processes for Auburn & Bay City. Key systems include: DI water loops, glycol water, furnace chilled water, dust collection system, ventilation/exhaust systems, waste systems, sanitary sewer. Process maps should include all support equipment and ‘end-user’, ideally fitting on a single page. If time permits, each stream will list normal process conditions (flow, temperature, pressure, etc.). These maps will serve as a quick reference guide for engineers as well as employees in Production and Maintenance.

  1. Goal defined (1 week)
  2. Information Gathering (2 weeks)
    • Determine for each system the available information, such as P&IDs, schematics, etc.
  3. Data Capture (2 weeks)
    • Conduct field walkdowns to begin sketching systems onto paper.
  4. Documentation (2 weeks)
    • Build digital schematics for each facility system.
    • Include process variables where applicable to each stream or unit operation.
  5. Final reporting (1 week)
    • Compile and distribute schematics to various functions: Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Walking down P&IDs.
  • Utilization of software such as VISIO or PowerPoint for creating schematics.
  • Meeting with equipment engineers, maintenance techs, production employees to capture normal operating conditions.

Physical Requirements:

S-Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Freshman or later or later student in B.S. program for chemical or mechanical engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with MS office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD-based software. VISIO also acceptable.
