Interpretive Programs Coordinator

Position Dates: 05/05/2024 - 09/21/2024 (20 weeks)

Join us in working in America’s largest national park! With provided training, you will research, prepare, and present formal and informal interpretive programs including talks and guided walks.

You will be working in the Interpretation Division of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve at Copper Center. You will work at a visitor center desk to provide assistance with trip planning and orientation for park visitors, provide wilderness trip planning, answer phones, and introduce the park film. You will also prepare and present up to three, formal interpretive programs. You may also issue federal subsistence hunting and fishing permits, in addition to ORV permits.

Highly qualified applicants should have good public speaking, writing and research skills, and have a friendly and cheerful personality in order to work well with the public. You must have the ability to receive instructions and work independently. You must be willing to live in a remote area with minimal amenities, and be able to live in rustic housing with a roommate.

Compensation amounts:

  • $600/week living allowance
  • $1300 one-time round-trip travel stipend
  • $300/month housing stipend
  • $750 duty-related reimbursable expenses for miscellaneous uniform items
  • This position is not eligible for an AmeriCorps Award
