Graduate Research Assistant CHEER Lab 24-25

About the CHEER Lab

The CHEER (Community Health Engagement and Empowerment Research) Lab provides undergraduate students with hands-on training in research skills and opportunities to work on faculty-led research projects from different disciplines within the School of Health Sciences.

The CHEER Lab is offered to students as two, zero credit courses which meet weekly (IPE 1020) or monthly (IPE 3020).

Job Description

The CHEER Lab will be hiring a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) for Fall 2024 – Winter 2025 with the potential to be rehired for Fall 2025 - Winter 2026. The GRA will provide approximately 10 hours of service per week over the course of a semester. The GRA will help facilitate online research training modules in Moodle, recruit diverse undergraduate students using inclusive practices, manage CHEER Lab undergraduate researchers, provide feedback to students, help lead weekly meetings, engage in program evaluation activities, and meet regularly with Dr. Van Wasshenova.

The GRA will be required to attend all IPE 1020 weekly meetings (Fall 2024: Wed 12pm – 1pm, and Winter 2025 (Mon 4pm-5pm, Wed 12pm-1pm), in addition to weekly meetings with Dr. Van Wasshenova and monthly meetings for IPE 3020.  

The GRA should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, reply promptly to faculty requests, the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and be highly self-motivated. The GRA needs to have strong organizational skills and the ability to work on several projects at one time. A background in health science research is preferred. A first-year graduate student who can continue working in the 2025 – 2026 academic year is desired.

Qualifications:

Graduate Assistants must be fully admitted and enrolled in the Master's Program for at least 8 credits for each semester of the academic year in a graduate program. Graduate course work and/or research must contribute directly to the satisfaction of Oakland's degree requirements. Graduate assistants must have and maintain good academic standing (3.0 grade point average).

This position is a part time (10 hours a week) position, but interested students could combine this GA position with another part time GA position in the School of Health Sciences.

Tuition:

Tuition (four credits per semester or a total of 8 credits) will be compensated. Any additional credits and class fees, including books, will be the responsibility of the student.  

Compensation:

In addition to tuition, the student will receive a stipend. The stipend will be paid as a paycheck (via direct deposit if desired) on the last business day of each month for the duration of the assistantship.
