Information Technology Support Aide

Overview of Department

The Software Technology & Enterprise Asset Management Department is one many departments within Staten Island Railway. Staten Island Railway is a subsidy of New York City Transit. This Department is responsible for implementing IT solutions and long term planning for Enterprise Asset Management, along with troubleshooting and maintenance of all SIR IT equipment and software environment. Normal operating hours are 7:30am to 3:30 pm. Monday thru Friday (and on call). 

 

Project Responsibilities

Prospective interns responsibilities include the following but not limited to: 
- Assist with the deployment and troubleshooting of computer hardware (e.g. PC/Wyse Boxes, printers, etc.), and software (e.g. Windows Server and Client OS, O365, etc.) 
- Assist with the deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of network elements such as, Nortel/Cisco Switches, NetGuardian, Storage Devices/Recorders, CCTV IP/Analog cameras, etc. 
- Visit remote facilities, and provide technical support to end-users 
- Assist with database system development, and perform weekly update / maintenance 
- Setting up new Users with access to LAN, Email, Printer, Mobile Device, Internet, Home Folder, Shared Folders, and different application software 
- Assist with IT equipment life-cycle / inventory management 
- Assist with developing and maintaining documentations (forms, training manual, etc.) 
- Assist with Mobile Device (Smart Phones, Basic Phones, MiFi Devices, etc.) deployment

 

Qualification Background

Some of the intended qualifications include, but not limited to, 
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good customer service skills, patient, responsible, and respectful. 
- Familiar with Windows 10 , Windows 7, Linux, and other Operating Systems including Server OS; LAN/WAN concepts, Switching/Routing, Cisco/Avaya/Nortel Command Line Interface, Computer Applications such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Visio. (Zero to six months of experience).
