Intern, Capstone Product Owner

Somos Internship Program Mission Statement/Description

Somos’ internship program offers students a direct line to our organization as well as the potential to accelerate their future with us. From active coaching to cross-functional collaboration, you’ll gain critical, real-world project experience. As part of our program, you’ll gain direct access to industry leaders, subject matter experts, and most importantly, mentors. Not only will you work on impactful projects, but you’ll also benefit from a community of professionals who are passionate about preparing you for future successes.

Our 2024 program consists of full-time, paid internships that will run from May 20th to August 9th. This is a non-exempt role with a salary range of $25.00-$30.00 per hour.

 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Our internship program is remote based; however, the intern must be located in the United States.
  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student, enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited college or university.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above (based on a 4.0 scale)
  • Available to work full time (40 hours/week) for the duration of the summer program (May 20th - August 9th).
  • Required to undergo a pre-employment background check.

 

Working closely with the department, the Intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Explore, learn and support Somos’ product portfolio
  • Provide support for our product portfolio process improvements
  • Learn how to curate the best ideas, hypothesize their value, and implement the most promising of them
  • Curate stories to support the development items of the Capstone project
  • Prioritize stories needed for Capstone execution
  • Support Scrum Masters in execution of the capstone
  • Other tasks as assigned

 

Major Initiatives

  • Participate in overall strategic product discussions for current and future products
  • Assist team with performing database programs and processes
  • Present the Sprint Planning of Capstone
  • Present the Demos of Capstone
  • Incorporate the feedback from all mentors into next Sprint
  • Present the final Capstone project

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong quantitative analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency with SQL skills and Microsoft Office Applications, specifically Excel and Access
  • Willingness to assist in variety of product related tasks
  • Ability to act as customer advocate in cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet deadlines, and manage multi-dimensional projects
  • Team oriented attitude, where no job is too big or too small
  • Highly motivated, resourceful, self-starter with ability to deliver results
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a small, fast-paced environment
  • Passion for consumer empowering technology

 

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Working toward a degree in product, business management or computer engineering.
  • Knowledge of global products, product life cycles, and understanding the needs of customers
  • Exposure to Design Thinking
  • Knowledge and experience working in the following application tools: Microsoft Office Suite, Jira, Version One, Mural, Figma and Tableau preferred
