Embedded Writing Specialist (EWS)

Embedded Writing Specialists (EWSs) provide in-person and online writing support for students taking WRT 1020: Basic Writing or WRT 1050: Composition I. EWSs will attend class sessions, tutor students one-on-one about their writing, lead class activities, develop resource materials, and work closely with the course professor and EWS director to provide support to students.

For fall 2024, all WRT 1020 courses will have in person class meetings. The EWS will be required to attend in person class when it is held.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values of the EWS program. For more information about these values, applicants should read the Department of Writing and Rhetoric and Oakland University’s goals to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.

To apply, please upload a resume and cover letter by 7/15/24 that addresses your qualifications for the job. Top applicants will complete an online interview in August 2024. Preference will go to majors in Professional and Digital Writing, minors in Writing, employees of the Writing Center, or students who have taken advanced courses in the Writing and Rhetoric Department.

For questions regarding the EWS program, please contact the EWS Director Dr. Lori Ostergaard at ostergaa@oakland.edu.
