Grizz Mascot Performer

Job Summary

The Grizz performers are students who represent Oakland University to prospective students and their families, attend visit and outreach events, and make appearances at Oakland University Athletics events. “Grizz” is the Oakland University Mascot who provides an exciting, fun, and interesting display of OU pride. Student performers work closely with the Undergraduate Admissions and Athletics staff to offer a current student’s perspective of the academic, extracurricular, and social life at OU, as well as hyping crowds and supporting Oakland sports teams. 

 

Duties Performed

  • Perform as Grizz Mascot at assigned Undergraduate Admissions recruitment events and other campus and community events. Perform as Grizz mascot at off campus community events related to the recruitment of new undergraduate students.
  • Perform as Grizz Mascot at assigned Athletic events.
  • Participate in Undergraduate Admissions & University events including, but not limited to, Transfer Student Open House, Transfer Tuesday, Go for the Gold, Discover OU, Music Theatre and Dance Day, Business Day, Education & Human Services Day, Engineering & Computer Science Day, Human Health Day, Welcome Receptions, Presidential Welcome Receptions,Get Ready for College, individual visits, group visits, and daily campus tours. Events are held on weekdays, select weeknights, and select weekend dates.
  • Participate in Athletic events including, but not limited to, Volleyball games, Men’s Soccer games, Women’s Soccer games, Men’s Basketball games, Women’s Basketball games, Baseball games, and Softball games.
  • Participate in any assigned Grizz appearances both on and off of OU's campus.
  • Attend required Grizz Team meetings, event run-throughs, professional developments and training.
  • Assist with Undergraduate Admissions social media presence and strategy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  • Current student at Oakland University in good academic and judicial standing
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA; must also maintain this grade point average for the duration of employment
  • Warm and engaging personality
  • A professional demeanor and image to prove compatible with OU
  • Independent and self-motivated, while flexible and adaptable
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and respond to priorities
  • Able to work both individually and within a team
  • Previous experience with mascot performance is preferred
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required; attendance at all undergraduate admissions events is mandatory unless class or another approved obligation
  • Must be available to attend required trainings and meetings throughout fall and winter semesters
  • Overall, the commitment may be between 4 and 25 hours per week, depending on students’ availability and the needs of the office; students must provide their course schedule and availability prior to the fall and winter semester start dates
