Graduate Assistant for Performing Arts Outreach (School of Music, Theatre and Dance)

Ideal Candidate: Someone who has a passion for solving complex problems, working with diverse populations, and furthering community connections; someone who believes in the power of collaboration across disciplinary lines and the value of universities working in and with community in mutually beneficial ways.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and/or community members to plan and implement campus-community connections
  • Maintain and analyze relevant data to measure impact and outcomes
  • Perform in university ensembles to deliver programming

Activities:

  • Assist with coordinating SMTD partnerships with organizations in SE Michigan including but not limited to locations in Pontiac and Detroit
  • Create and distribute materials to increase awareness of community-facing SMTD initiatives
  • Assist with website updates or press releases
  • Provide regular reports on activities

Requirements:

  • Musical skills and academic record commensurate with graduate study in a NASM accredited program
  • Full time enrolled graduate student (8 hours/semester)
  • Maintain good academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA)
  • Excellent communicator with strong attention to detail

Desired skills:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Canva, or other design software
  • Experience in promoting/marketing performing arts events
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations

Supervisor: Director of the School of Music, Theatre and Dance

Terms: This is a two semester position (September 3, 2024 – April 30, 2025) with a work expectation of 20 hours per week. Renewal is contingent on demonstrated success in delivering activities and measuring outcomes 

Compensation: Full-time graduate tuition (8 credits per semester) plus stipend
