Graduate Research Assistant - Health Behavior and Promotion Research Lab

The HBPR Lab will be hiring a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) for Fall 2024 – Winter 2025. The GRA will support on-going research in the HBPR Lab and would require about 1-15 hours a week. This position will be mostly in-person at Oakland University with some opportunities for independent work that could be virtual.

The Health Behavior and Promotion Research (HBPR) Lab focuses on using health behavior
theory to explain and promote healthy behaviors around physical activity and nutrition. Our goal is to explore ideas that will help individuals and communities move their bodies in ways that feel good and eat delicious and nutritious food. To learn more about the HBPR Lab, please visit https://sites.google.com/oakland.edu/dr-emvan/research

 

Primary Responsibilities

Duties of the GRA will include 

  • meeting weekly with Dr. Van Wasshenova
  • searching relevant literature
  • drafting and pilot testing surveys
  • data collection
  • data entry
  • assisting in writing dissemination reports/manuscripts
  • drafting conference presentations
  • managing HBPR Lab undergraduate researchers
  • updating the HBPR Lab website
  • other duties related to the HBPR Lab

Required Qualifications

  • Received or obtained an undergraduate degree in health science, community health, exercise science, psychology, or a related field.
  • The GRA should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, reply promptly to faculty requests, the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and be highly self-motivated.
  • Graduate Assistants must be fully admitted and enrolled in a Master's Program at Oakland University for at least 8 credits for each semester of the academic year in a graduate program. Graduate course work and/or research must contribute directly to the satisfaction of Oakland's degree requirements. Graduate assistants must have and maintain good academic standing (3.0 grade point average).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous research experience is preferred, including data entry and survey testing.
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics and SPSS.
