Back-End Developer

Posting Salary:  Competitive

Under the direction of the Director of Business Intelligence and Applications / Designee, the SQL Developer is responsible for developing SQL databases and writing applications to interface with SQL databases, as well as writing and testing code. Development and coding consist of designing tables, stored procedures, views and functions, writing complex calculations, stored procedures for reports, and optimizing existing procedures using indexing, temp tables, logic changes.  The SQL Developer works with team members within the Business Intelligence and Applications to build database prototypes to validate system requirements. The SQL Developer also creates documentation for code, provides progress reports, and performs code review and peer feedback.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Works with implementing databases and processes to enable departments and employees to accomplish the goals set by the Sheriff’s Office on a timely basis.

Participates and leads team meetings and project meetings.

Collaborates with architecture team, application development and operations to help achieve a state-of-the-art environment that meets current and future business objectives.

Designs relational database models and tests the developed code with test data to make sure the code is error free.

Creates and maintains database and database objects.

Write scripts, triggers, stored procedures, and functions using Transact-SQL.

Designs and develops SSIS and SSRS packages.

Engages in effective unit and system testing.

Troubleshoots database issues and performance in DEV/TEST/PROD environments.

Performs other related assignments and duties as directed.

Creates Entity Relationship Diagram(s) (ERD).

Strong ability to assess existing code to determine necessary updates in preparation for an upgrade to a new version of the application.

Strong knowledge of T/SQL Development (Stored Procedures, Views, Query Optimization, etc.).

Strong designing skills with knowledge of common design patterns.

Strong understanding of various SQL Server features including SSIS, SSRS, XML, Service Broker, Full-Text, etc.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL 2008 R2, 2012, and 2016.

Experience with modern API technologies (REST, SOAP, JSON, XML).

Excellent customer service skills with the ability to react diplomatically and patiently to internal and external customers.

Good follow-up skills paired with the ability to multi-task and determine root causes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures.

Ability to work independently under minimal supervision in stressful situations and meet deadlines.

Ability to manage multiple projects utilizing best practices based on departmental priorities.

  

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) test certificate.

 Possession of an Associates or higher degree from an accredited college or university AND at least two (2) years of work experience in SQL Development, OR (5) years of full time, professional work experience in SQL Development.

Required to be capable of working any shift assigned, including days, afternoons or midnights; must be capable of working Holidays and weekends; must be capable of working mandatory overtime, as required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Possession of a bachelor’s or higher degree, from an accredited college or university in Computer Programming, Information Technology or a closely related field.

Possession of ITIL Foundation Certification.

Microsoft Certified Solutions Master (MCSM): Data Platform or Business Intelligence.

Familiarity with HTML, ASP.NET, a plus.

Experience with Oracle Databases, RAC, TOAD & Enterprise Manager.

Experience with Linux, Unix, is a benefit.

Experience with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise.

Experience with Microsoft Office, Visio and Project.

Experience with Azure Data services (SQL, Data Factory, Service Bus, etc).
