Mechanical CAD Designer Intern

ACS is looking for a Mechanical CAD Designer Intern to join our team in our Verona, WI office.

The Mechanical CAD Designer Intern will gain experience in the design of mechanical equipment, rotating machinery, fluid conditioning systems, hydraulic systems and a variety of mechanical and electrical integrated equipment.   The designer will work with and be closely mentored by internal team members (other designers, engineers), and interact with external team members (clients and suppliers). 

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

Design Phases

  • Works alongside another designer or an engineer(s) to design a single system or multiple systems in support of projects.
  • Supports execution of equipment project work plans by completing high quality design work in timeline required by the project schedule.
  • Participates in design reviews both internal and external.
  • Performs design work, from concept to manufacturing drawings within budget and on schedule.
  • Interprets the design criteria and generates feasible design concepts based on the client’s requirements by working collaboratively with the lead designer, project engineer, and other team members.
  • Learns to perform detailed designer functions including: creating 3D models, assemblies, and detailed component level designs.

 

Manufacturing Phase

  • Assists with technical aspects of equipment build at our Manufacturing facility through close involvement and regular communication with the manufacturing facility personnel. 
  • Assists with manufacturing process to learn best methods and implement in future designs.
  • Assists with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure equipment is functioning to client’s specifications before shipment. 
  • Keeps track/applies redlines as needed.
  • Republish updated drawings as necessary.

 

General 

  • Works on multiple projects in a given time period, depending upon project size and deadline and completes work on time.
  • Follows and applies ACS CAD Standards and Machine Design Group processes to ensure design quality and drawings are in adherence to our standards. 
  • Complies with and helps to enforce standard policies and procedures.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Working towards a Technical or Associate Degree in Mechanical Design from an accredited technical institution or college; or commensurate experience.
  • Proficiency in Creo preferred, or alternately in another parametric 3D design software and willing to train and learn Creo.
  • Working knowledge of 2D CAD programs, other 3D modeling programs, and a willingness to learn new design software as required.
  • Basic understanding of GD&T and ANSI industry standards preferred.
  • Basic understanding of P&ID preferred.
  • Mechanical/Electrical project hands on build experience a plus
  • Ability to work well in project team environment by being a team player.
  • Ability to travel to customer facilities for equipment installation and commissioning (occasionally).
