Undergraduate Research Assistant - Pontiac Property Condition Assessment

The Undergraduate Research Assistant will work as a part of a team focused on environmental approaches that impact physical activity. research assistants will be assisting with data collection on property conditions in the City of Pontiac. This will involve physically observing properties, and documenting conditions using a standardized checklist. Students will work in teams in the field and will be provided with training. Students are expected to work 8-20 hours/week, depending on scheduling and weather conditions. This is a temporary position, and we anticipate data collection to be complete by the end of Fall semester.


Strong candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, reply promptly to communication, have the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and be highly self-motivated. Reliability and punctuality are critical for field work in Pontiac. You do not need to have your own transportation; arrangements can be made to leave from campus to go to Pontiac for data collection. Experience with community-based research and evaluation methods, and prior work or lived experience in the Pontiac community will help candidates be successful, but is not required.
