Junior Mainframe Engineer

Junior Mainframe Engineer

Location: Helena, Montana (3 days on-site)

Duration: 6-month contract with potential extension or hire

Our client, the largest customer-owned health insurer in the nation and the fourth largest overall is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join their team as an Entry Level Mainframe Engineer.

As an Entry Level Mainframe Engineer, you will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance, development, and operation of our mainframe systems. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers and IT professionals to ensure the stability, performance, and security of our mainframe environments. This position is based in Helena, Montana, and requires on-site work three days a week.

 

Training and Development:

  • Comprehensive free training courses provided to help you gain the necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Assigned mentor to guide and support you through your initial period and beyond.
  • Regular feedback and performance reviews to assist your development.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the monitoring and management of mainframe system operations.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including backups, patch installations, and system updates.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to mainframe hardware and software.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to develop and implement mainframe solutions.
  • Participate in the development and testing of mainframe applications.
  • Assist in ensuring the security and compliance of mainframe systems.
  • Document processes, procedures, and system configurations.
  • Provide support for disaster recovery planning and testing.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of mainframe technologies (e.g., z/OS, COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS).
  • Familiarity with programming languages and concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Residency in or willingness to relocate to Helena, Montana.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship or coursework related to mainframe technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of database management.
  • Understanding of network and systems security principles.
