About Resource Engagement and Prevention

Resource Engagement and Prevention is a division that consists of a Clinical Prevention team and several multi-disciplinary Outreach Teams. Specific teams and programs include the Fatherhood, Parenthood, and Denver Parent Advocates programs, multiple community outreach teams, Veteran’s Services, Complex Care, Prevention, and the Immigrant and Refugee team. Additional areas of specialty in Resource Engagement and Prevention include our GIVE and CARE Programing and the new Youth Resiliency and Mentorship.

 

What You’ll Do

As an Intern within the Resource Engagement & Prevention division, you be placed within one of following programs and support their initiatives. We intend to hire up to 2 interns for the GIVE Center, and 1 for Donations and Drives. The internships are intended to start in September 2024 and run through the academic year into May 2025:

 

GIVE Center: The program provides emergency goods and services with a trauma-informed, person-centered, and holistic approach; while our GIVE walk-up services focus on emergency needs. As an Intern supporting the Give Center, you will assess in identifying customers' needs, providing emergency goods and services, and connecting them with the corresponding community-based service providers for on-going support. Monitor and tracking client’s participation, documenting services rendered. Support the operations of our monthly mobile food pantry events & other community outreach events. The Intern supporting this program, will need to be in office and will not have option to intern in a hybrid format.

Donations & Drives: The program is committed in increasing the Donor Community through creating awareness and by being an advocate for the community.  As an Intern supporting the Donations program you will research new CarePortal partners in the Denver community among faith-based entities, business and neighbor organizations. You will access the donor database to pull reports and update donor data. Finally you will build professional relationships and networks with donor community partners.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: In this internship, the Intern will not interact with Clients in a manner like a Social Worker, Behavioral Therapist, Counselor, or Psychologist, and as such, this internship may not qualify or meet the requirements for certain academic programs. Please let us know in your application if you will need the supervision of a licensed Social Worker per the requirements of your academic program.

 

About You

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Social work, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Communications, Social Sciences, or a related field, or within one year of graduation
  • Ability to commit to the internship for at least 9 months in Denver
  • Interest in supporting individuals and families in emergent need
  • Able to commit at least 10-15 hours a week
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to practice cultural competence while in a service role
  • Excellent customer service, teamwork, and time management skills
  • Bilingual skills preferred but not required

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Education Requirement:  Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion).
  • Experience: None
  • Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
  • License/Certification Requirement:  By position, may require a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

Location Flexibility

The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field several days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.
