Test Engineer Intern

A.   Purpose and Scope

Provide ongoing support to Bearing Art sales and engineering by performing testing and evaluations of ILJIN products and associated components.

B.   Responsibilities

-Conduct a variety of tests using established test methods

Tests may include durability, drag torque, NVH and ball ramp testing.

  • Prepare test samples, set up and adjust and operate test equipment
  • Inspect test samples as required including visual and dimensional checks
  • Record test data including operating conditions and results
  • Summarize test results using mathematical calculations, data reduction and statistics
  • Formalize test results into a written report

-Provide analysis for returned parts

  Returned parts may include customer test parts, warranty parts, customer and internal line rejections, and parts for benchmarking

  • Document returned parts
  • Perform dimensional, metrological and/or metallurgical analysis as needed
  • Provide root cause analysis for failure mode, where applicable
  • Formalize findings into a written report

-Maintain related test and inspection equipment and tooling including necessary calibrations

-Monitor tooling inventory and order new/replacement tooling as appropriate

-Design tooling and gaging as needed

-Perform routine maintenance on test equipment

-Secure parts for testing from internal or external sources

-Provide input on test methods and procedures

-Provide preliminary post-test inspection results including root cause assessment of failures

-Assist with specification of new test equipment

A.   Education and Training

College student working towards degree

B.   Technical Requirements

·      Good mathematical knowledge including basic statistics

·      Ability to operate and maintain test equipment

·      Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with use of basic hand and power tools

·      Demonstrated ability to follow test procedures and protocol in detail

·      Safety first mindset

·      Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications

·      Demonstrated problem solving skills

·      Learning agility

·      Ability to write concise and accurate technical reports

·      Motivated, proactive individual with good interpersonal skills

·      Global mindset

·      Team player

·      Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

·      CAD experience a plus

-We are looking for a college student that is able to work part time while in school and part to full time hours during summer or off sessions.

-Junior or Senior level status.

-Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
