Revenue Auditor 6 (SUT Books and Records Auditor – Advanced)

The Department of Revenue is looking for a self-motivated individual that will act as a lead worker to auditors in the Sales & Use Tax Section of the Audit Bureau. 

Remote/Telework up to 60%. Note: After completion of probation, you can gradually increase up to 60% based on performance and workload needs. These positions are being offered in Wisconsin statewide, in our Edina, MN or Glen Ellyn, IL offices or current employees in an approved home office. Position Summary

This is an advanced level position that acts as a lead worker of auditors responsible for auditing the returns and books and records of businesses for the proper application of Wisconsin sales and use tax laws, including premier resort and local exposition district taxes and dry cleaning, police and fire protection and rental vehicle fees (referred to as sales and use taxes). You will spend most of your time performing the following responsibilities:

  • Examine audit reports for conformity with department policies, procedures, and laws, and to assure uniform treatment of taxpayers.
  • Examine audit work papers to verify compliance with assignment instructions and to assure evidence supports adjustments proposed.
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct training programs for new and experienced auditors; tailoring training to the tax type and technical ability of various audiences as required.

Salary Information

Starting salary will be between $30.82 and $50.83 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, plus benefits. For information on state benefits click here.  Current state employees' pay will be set in accordance with pay upon appointment provisions for the compensation plan for broadband 07-02. A 24-month probationary period may be required.

Job Details

The department will conduct a background check, fingerprint check and tax compliance check prior to making an offer to hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in accounting, or equivalent work experience (e.g., professional experience auditing accounting records and/or procedures, using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards).
  • Experience field auditing sales and use tax returns.
  • Experience with training/mentoring or presenting tax or other technical topics to individuals or groups in a professional or academic setting.

 

Qualifications that may be evaluated at a later stage in the selection process:

  • Lead worker, Lead Worker-In-Training, project leader and/or team lead experience.
