Project Title: Augmented Reality to Enhance Teaching and Learning in Forensic Nursing

Overview: In the field of forensic nursing, creating meaningful learning experiences for students is challenging, due to the sensitivity of sexual assault examinations. These patients are victims of violence; having observers or a novice student conduct the exam can lead to re-traumatization. Furthermore, forensic evidence is often collected during this exam and having a student not yet competent in these procedures could impact patient legal outcomes. Alternative teaching strategies are critical to improve student competence and ensure patient satisfaction. Augmented reality (AR) is an instructional modality that creates a safe learning environment and can improve faculty teaching when educating students on conducting gynecologic exams following sexual assault.
