MI Mobility Fellows Program - multiple positions open

CEDAM is partnering with the State of Michigan’s Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, Michigan Central, and the Detroit Revitalization Fellows program to launch the Michigan (MI) Mobility Fellows Program.

The MI Mobility Fellows Program is a highly selective 15-month fellowship that attracts talent from all over the country to gain real-world experience in transportation planning and mobility innovation. This fellowship will offer participants two unique career tracks that will expose them to the public and private sectors to advance and grow mobility innovation in the State of Michigan.

The MI Mobility Fellows is launching its initial cohort this year. Each track will host five fellows from October 2024 – December 2025.


Host Sites

CEDAM is hiring five fellows to work on the Transportation and Mobility Planning track with host sites across Michigan.

CEDAM is also hiring five fellows to work on the Mobility x Society Innovators track with host sites located primarily in Southeastern MI.

  • Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance

  • Mass Transit – Flint

Mobility x Society Innovators (located at Michigan Central - Detroit, MI)

  • Bloom
  • Energy Storage Safety Products International, LLC
  • OptimizeEV
  • Snowbotix
  • Strut Motors, Inc.
     

Qualifications

The appropriate candidate will have a strong interest and/or background in community economic development, transportation, mobility, urban planning, mobility management, electric vehicles, and future mobility or a combination of such interests. The appropriate candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent attention to detail, the ability to work within a team or as an individual, and be familiar with the Microsoft Office suite, Google applications, and other related software. Fellows are required to work the standard office hours.
 

The following are required of all fellows: 
 

  • A recent graduates (within two years) from any degree field, with demonstrated relevant experience, interested in working on public transportation projects.
  • OR relevant education experience (coursework, capstone, etc.) in the technology, transit, mobility and related field
  • Demonstrated experience (paid or volunteer) with transportation, mobility, public transit, electric vehicles and related fields
  • 15 month commitment
  • Commitment to public service
  • Understanding of transportation equity
  • Commitment to advancing mobility innovation
  • Understanding of applying societal benefit to mobility technologies.
     

Scope of Work
 

Fellows will complete projects that vary by host site but could include:
 

  • Addressing transportation equity
  • Working with mobility and transportation professionals to tackle mobility challenges
  • Incorporating current or emerging technologies into mobility and public transit
  • Supporting the growth and development of early-stage companies

All fellows will receive:

  • Provide meaningful capacity support for host sites – transit, government, economic development offices, and emerging companies across the state.
  • Participate in fellowship building and training, as well as additional professional experiences to develop skills for the long haul.
  • Advance and grow mobility across the state of MI.
  • Have an improved understanding of the mobility barriers.
  • Engage in projects related to addressing mobility equity and ensure societal benefits.
  • Receive $75,000 in salary for the 15-month fellowship period.
  • Receive a successful completion bonus.
  • Receive healthcare benefits that include dental, vision, and mental health support.
  • Have access to CEDAM trainings.
  • Have access to sector conferences and industry experts.

About Detroit Revitalization Fellows

The Detroit Revitalization Fellows (DRF), a leadership development program of Wayne State University’s Office of Economic Development, works to expand the impact and network of diverse leaders committed to driving positive systemic change within the civic, community, and economic development landscapes in Detroit. Established in 2011, DRF has led the charge for driving mid-career talent in the city of Detroit for eight years (4 cohorts) and has an established network of 80 talented mid-career, senior, and executive leaders.Wayne State University's Office of Economic Development operates DRF in close alignment with TechTown Detroit, the University's entrepreneurship hub and home of the Mobility Accelerator Innovation Network (MAIN).
