JOB SUMMARY/ACCOUNTABILITY

Matrix Human Services is searching for a driven accounting intern who is ready for an immersive, real-world experience within a non-profit and community service organization. Someone who has a basic understanding of GAAP and financial principles. Under the supervision of your mentor, the Accounting Intern can expect to participate in accounts payable entering invoices, creating payments Vouchers, EFT’s, ACH’s and checks. Learn about accounting software and programs, learn the importance of how data flows, and assist with other accounting activities where needed. A strong Candidate should be extremely organized, highly motivated, a team player and eager to learn new technologies. Interested in a junior or higher college educated individual that is task focused who is efficient and accurate.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform accounting and clerical functions to support supervisors and accounting personnel.
  • Assist with research, data entry, recording and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Gain hands-on experience with accounting processes such as GL reconciliations, monthly closings, annual closings, and reviewing and creating 1099 / 1096 vendor reports.
  • Create vouchers, invoices, checks, EFT’s, ACH, account statements, reports, and other records.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma required.
  • Pursuing a college degree in Accounting or Business from an accredited college or university.
  • Good with numbers and figures and possess an analytical acumen.
  • Good understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
  • Demonstrate strong Excel skills, (i.e. v-lookup, subtotals, pivot tables)
  • Comfortable in a diverse environment and enjoy working with people.
  • Results and detail-oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work both independently and as a cross-functional team member.

WORKING AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work in a normal office environment with usual pressures of managing personnel and dealing with time constraints.
