Congressional Internship for Rep. Ilhan Omar - Spring 2025

Position Description:

• Constituent Services: Assist staff with research and communication with constituents,

organizations, and agencies. Draft memos/letters for staff/Congresswoman.

• Administrative Tasks: Office reception, answer calls, intake of constituent comments via

phone, update documents as needed, and other assigned duties.

• Events and Meetings: Research community engagements/activities, assist in

planning/organizing district events or meetings for the Congresswoman, accompany staff

on community outreach, take minutes at meetings.

• Participation in briefings on legislative issues, and trainings related to constituent services

and operations of a Congressional office.

• Additional work/projects as needed.

• Virtual/Hybrid work environment

Qualifications:

• Strong written and verbal communication

• Detail-Oriented

• Organized and flexible

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Photography/video skills encouraged

• Basic computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

• Undergraduate student, recent graduate (within the past 6 months of application deadline), or graduate student

• Applicants with ties to Minnesota's 5th Congressional District preferred

• Ideal candidates must be able to work 3-5 days a week, 20-30 hours/week, June through August 2024 (Flexible start/end dates)

  1. Be a U.S. citizen;
  2. Be lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)(B);
  3. Be (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; or
  4. Owe allegiance to the U.S. (i.e., qualify as a non-citizen U.S. national under federal law).
