Building Services Assistant

Position Overview:

The Building Services Assistant (BSA) is the front line for helping keep the Oakland Center running smoothly and safely. BSA’s are responsible for assisting Facility Custodians to ensure that spaces in and around the Oakland Center are clean and all necessary tables, chairs, and equipment are in place when guests arrive for their event. BSA’s work with and without supervision to assist in the general cleaning of both public and event spaces, lounges, restrooms (as requested), and other areas as directed within the Oakland Center. Students in this position will use commercial cleaning chemicals and equipment regularly. BSA’s are required to attend staff meetings (as scheduled). Within this position, you will build up your knowledge surrounding the building functions and maintenance. With your new expertise, we will aim to build your resume by applying the skills you learned in this role to our other careers within the Oakland Center.  This position reports to the Building Maintenance Supervisor for the Oakland Center. While working in this position there is room for promotion for individuals looking for more hours and willing to put in the time and work. 

Essential Duties:

  • Assistance in room set-ups, tear-downs, and turn-overs for all event spaces in the Oakland Center
  • Assist in equipment repair, cleaning, and routine periodic maintenance.
  • General cleaning and trash removal in event spaces and common areas
  • Operation of light cleaning equipment
  • Assist and solve customer/patron problems concerning room set-ups
  • Provide a professional level of customer service to all building users by satisfying group and individual needs
  • Other duties as assigned
