Imaging Research Technician

Job description

Seeking a highly-motivated research technician responsible for neuroimaging analysis and study support set-up for neuroimaging, data processing and statistical analysis, computer programming, and working with patient and Veteran populations

The Imaging Research Technician will be working with the Neuroimaging Research for Veterans Center (NeRVe) and the Translational Research Center for TBI and Stress Disorders (TRACTS) located at the VA Boston Healthcare System at the Jamaica Plain campus for the Boston Healthcare System.

These centers support multidisciplinary research that will lead to innovations in the diagnosis and treatment of Veterans who have mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI) in conjunction with severe stress related emotional disorders, as well as other conditions affecting Veterans and older adults, including individuals at risk for cognitive decline due to aging or disease.

 

Key Responsibilities:

· Functional and structural neuroimaging scanning support.

· Screening and processing human subjects for neuroimaging research studies.

· Analyze and process neuroimaging data using software such as Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM), Freesurfer, and/or FSL.

· Writing computer programs and scripts in language(s) including C, Matlab, and/or Linux.

· Manage datasets such as SQL-based data storage.

· Prepare data for presentations and manuscripts.

· Assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol preparation records management.

 

Qualifications and Skills

· Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, and/or Cognitive Science.

· Prior experience in brain imaging research and use of neuroimaging software (FSL/Freesurfer/AFNI/SPM) is preferable, but not necessary. However, applicant must have strong motivation to develop expertise in processing data across imaging domains.

· Understanding of statistics, and ability to conduct ANOVAs, t-tests, general linear models (GLMs), multiple regression, as well as machine learning and multivariate statistics.

· A good candidate will have strong computing skills and be able work with large datasets, Linux operating systems, MATLAB, shell scripting, and statistical analysis.
