Safety Professional Co-op/Intern

 

Pay Rate:

$20.00 - $26.50 / hr., based on prior experience
 

Category/Shift:

Salaried, Non-Exempt (Co-Op/Intern)

 

Physical Location:

Various, U.S. Paper Mills in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, and Virginia

 

The Job You Will Perform:
The following duties are typical of this position, but may not be all inclusive. Each person is expected to help with whatever duties are required to ensure a safe work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.  

 

  • Pulp & Paper Mill-based role interacting with other EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) professionals, engineers, hourly employees, contractors, and managers
  • Safety leadership--awareness of safety hazards, courage to intervene & stop a job if notice something unsafe, wears appropriate PPE, etc.
  • Own specific value-added projects for the mill
  • Conduct field audits / inspections and reports findings
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and IP's safety standards
  • May conduct safety meetings or trainings
  • Monitors various programs, such as Safe Work Observations, Industrial Hygiene, LOTO, etc.

The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:

  • Working on a college degree (B.S.) by august 2025, in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, similar courses of study
  • Ability to work alone
  • Understanding of basic OSHA regulations
  • High regard for safety in the workplace
  • Excellent communication, situational awareness, interpersonal skills, and including active listening
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills & experience (e.g., prior jobs; student associations, projects, etc.)
  • Eager to develop and hone skills necessary for career success
  • Comfort with all levels of employees and contractors
  • Open to relocation now and in the future
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
