Mechanical / Piping Engineer Intern or Co-op (Spring 2025)

The Mechanical / Piping Engineer Intern or Co-op will work alongside other Mechanical Engineers in our Mechanical and Piping Departments to prepare drawings, calculations, and other deliverables for our clients’ design projects. The position will also interface with team members in our other engineering disciplines to provide cohesive engineering packages to our clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Complete calculations of limited complexity, with supervision as needed; may include stress analysis and equipment sizing
  • Create and modify equipment drawings, isometrics, and P&IDs using AutoCAD
  • Assemble equipment RFQ packages
  • Model equipment and pipe design in 3-D using AutoCAD, Plant 3D and Inventor
  • Develop and design pipe supports
  • Assist experienced Mechanical and Piping Engineers with their activities as requested

Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree (or equivalent education) in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university
  • Effective communication skills in order to convey ideas is a must 
  • Ability to work within diverse teams assembled from Nexus, clients, and others
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and Word
  • Seeks feedback to improve performance
  • Proficient with AutoCAD or other drafting software desired
  • Exposure to Plant 3D or similar 3-D modeling programs a plus

Potential Experiences:
  • Gain an understanding of the business and engineering work flow in a consulting firm
  • Expand capabilities with drafting software such as AutoCAD, or others
  • Learn about process safety and its importance in the design and operation of our clients’ facilities
  • Exposure to and application of industry codes and standards related to the mechanical discipline such as ASME Section VIII, and piping codes such as ASME B31.3, B31.1 and ANSI B16.5
  • Obtain an introduction to P&IDs and piping specifications
  • Acquire hands-on experience in the field

This is a competitively compensated Intern or Co-op position. Please note in your cover letter if you are interested to co-op for a particular semester. Any school requirements for feedback or reporting to be provided by the Nexus manager should also be noted in the cover letter.
